Air Force has been known to carry one of the best rushing attacks in the nation and last year the Falcons ranked sixth in the entire country in yards per contest on the ground. The good thing for MSU is that the Falcons are playing a first-year quarterback. The bad news? Starting running back Jacobi Owens returns to terrorize opposing rush defenses.
Despite being a pass-first, and nearly pass-only, offense, junior wide receiver Jalen Robinette will be a guy on the outside to keep an eye on. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound wide out finished last year with 43 catches for 806 yards despite the team averaging just 145 passing yards per game.
Michigan State is going to have to take advantage of the Falcons’ depleted defense. Although they gave up just 24 points per game last season, the Falcons are losing seven starters — two linemen, two linebackers and three defensive backs. Connor Cook is going to have a field day as Air Force ranked 102nd in pass defense last season.
The rushing defense was a tad better, 28th, but MSU has the upper hand overall in this game. Even though Air Force is an elite running team, the Spartans had the No. 1 rush defense in the country last season and return many key pieces.
Prediction: Air Force 17, Michigan State 37 (3-0)
