He has waited his turn for two-plus years now and that wait might finally be over. Michigan State has been anticipating the emergence of third-year sophomore linebacker Jon Reschke since he came out of high school as a highly-touted four-star recruit from Birmingham Brother Rice (Mich.).

Coming in at the same time as fellow four-star inside linebacker Shane Jones, Reschke knew he would have his work cut out for him if he wanted to earn valuable playing time at some point in his MSU career.

Jones is another player who could break out this season, but my pick here is Reschke to surprise some people.

While Chris Frey is the most likely candidate to replace injured senior linebacker Ed Davis at the ‘money’ position, I would have to say Reschke is a close second.

In fact, yesterday it was reported that Frey and Reschke were taking first and second team snaps at the position, respectively. If Frey struggles at all this season, expect the veteran Reschke to come in and weather the storm a bit.

I could have picked either Frey, Reschke or even freshman linebacker Andrew Dowell at this position, but with all the praise the other two have received, Reschke’s success would surprise more people.
