Remember when Michigan State football season was overlooked just so Spartan fans could gear up for basketball season and another Tom Izzo Final Four run? Gone are the days when you always thought to yourself, “Just wait until basketball season,” when hearing Michigan fans brag about the success of their football team.
Mark Dantonio has changed the culture of the MSU football program, with the help of Mark Hollis, and it has been exciting to watch the gradual rise of national attention that this team gets every year now.
In fact, the Spartans have won 10-plus games in four of the past five years and have finished in the top five nationally for the past two seasons. Rose and Cotton Bowl wins over the past couple of years, respectively, have led to a flip-flop of national perception of the program.
Michigan State football is no longer considered ‘little brother’ or ‘same old State,’ but the Spartans are now considered elite and consistent. Connor Cook has performed well enough in big games to earn the trust of MSU coaches and fans.
No longer does Michigan State falter under the spotlight, yet they thrive in high-pressure situations.
The 2015 football season is expected to be a great one for Dantonio and his Spartans, so let’s take a look at five bold predictions for the upcoming year.
