5. Albert Okwuegbunam commits

Dantonio has been looking to add a second tight end to the 2016 recruiting class and he just missed out on four-star Luke Farrell who committed to Ohio State at the annual Friday Night Lights camp.

That weekend was actually a double-whammy for the head coach who lost out on Farrell and then pulled three-star offensive tackle Gavin Cupp’s scholarship as he didn’t communicate with the staff and competed at the camp anyways. Cupp is now also a Buckeye.

However, there has been another tight end on the radar for the Spartans and three-star Albert Okwuegbunam — yes, get used to the name, it’s long — is that guy.

Although Minnesota has seemed like the favorite for so long, the Springfield, Ill., native pointed out that the Spartans were one of the teams making a push for him and he even received the first non-Golden Gopher Crystal Ball vote on 247Sports last month — although that doesn’t mean anything.

Talks have since cooled a bit since his offer back in June, but this is a name to keep an eye on as the coaching staff has shown the desire to add two tight ends — Noah Davis is waiting for a competitor in the 2016 class.

I think that losing out on Farrell will be enough to make Dantonio push for Albert. If he doesn’t commit in August, don’t be shocked if he does a couple weeks after.
