If you haven’t heard the name Paul Scruggs yet, you should be ready to get acclimated with it in the near future as the four-star point guard is the No. 1 point guard target in the class for Izzo and Co.

The five-star point guard, ranked No. 14 overall and No. 3 at his position in the nation by 247Sports, is planning to visit the Spartans soon and they hope that they can court the talented player.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 200 pounds, he is the ideal size for a point guard under Izzo and that means that he’s big enough to get a shot off and strong enough to drive to the hole and create contact without getting overmatched.

Scruggs is from Indianapolis, Ind., so the Hoosiers, of course, will be high on his list until the very end, but the Kentucky Wildcats are also fighting for his services. That’s no surprise seeing as John Calipari loves to come into Big Ten territory and swipe some of the top recruits in the land.

The top point guard has had a busy summer filled with elite recruit camps and AAU showings and his head coach, Mike Peterson of the Indy Hoosiers, claimed that the Spartans are one of four schools recruiting him the hardest. The other three are Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.

This could turn out to be a heated four-team battle.
