Tom Izzo has been trending in the right direction with several top 2026 class recruits over the past few months, but as decisions draw nearer, two Michigan State basketball targets may be trending away from the Hall of Fame head coach.

The Spartans currently have Carlos Medlock Jr. and Julius Avent committed in their 2026 class, but there's room for 2-3 more guys, assuming Izzo wants to sign a bigger class.

Some big names have emerged as serious options to join Michigan State's class, but a couple of them are trending in the wrong direction.

Michigan State has to feel good about Jasiah Jervis who is getting ready to make his decision on Nov. 5 and the Spartans are right up there with NC State and Tennessee to land his services. It looks like Michigan State is the leader there for now.

I also think the Spartans probably lead for Ethan Taylor, a five-star center in the 2026 class who happens to be teammates with Medlock. Indiana and Kansas are threats here.

However, the two other names on Michigan State's big board seem to be trending in the opposite direction as Tristan Reed is getting set to announce and Maximo Adams is trimming his list down, too.

The rumor on X from college hoops experts is that Mississippi State made up some serious ground with Reed and with his announcement coming on Saturday night, it feels like the other MSU is going to receive some good news.

Adams just wrapped up his official visit with North Carolina and it sounds like the Tar Heels made a fantastic impression. He even canceled his upcoming Duke official visit as he narrows his list down. Visiting North Carolina and then immediately canceling a Duke visit has many experts believing that the Tar Heels are going to win this recruitment.

Nothing is set in stone and recruiting is fluid, but it looks like Michigan State might have to put all of its eggs in the Taylor and Jervis baskets moving forward.
