OK, this recruitment is not going to be easy for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball.

Darius Adams, a five-star combo guard from La Lumiere, decided to reopen his recruitment a week ago, and ever since, there has been speculation about Michigan State being heavily involved. Izzo reportedly showed interest and has been in contact with the elite recruit who had the Spartans in his final three before committing to the Huskies.

And the fit makes total sense with Jase Richardson moving on and the Spartans in dire need of some backcourt help with Kur Teng as the only returning piece besides Jeremy Fears Jr. there.

Michigan State did add Trey Fort, but there's a need for some point guard help, too.

That's why Adams' combo guard ability is perfect. He can play with Fears or in place of the point guard without any issues. He can spell Fears for 10-plus minutes per game at the point while playing off the ball the rest of the time.

While the fit makes sense and the relationships have already been formed, a few teams have emerged as serious threats to Michigan State here. One is Tennessee who was the other finalist before Adams committed to UConn originally but the other two are new contenders.

Adams will reportedly visit Georgetown and Maryland this weekend which is an interesting turn of events but it shows that this isn't going to be just a two-team race between the Spartans and Tennessee. The Volunteers have also scheduled a Zoom meeting with Adams.

Izzo needs to close the deal here if he wants to land Adams because the more teams that get involved make this increasingly more difficult to secure a commitment.
