Michigan State football made the top-six for three-star defensive back Julius Brents from Indianapolis, Ind.

‘Tis the season for top schools lists from soon-to-be senior recruits. On Monday, Michigan State made yet another top schools list, this time of three-star safety Julius Brents from Indianapolis, Ind.

Although his name hasn’t come up much in regards to Michigan State, he has to be considered a top target given the offseason attrition in the defensive backfield the Spartans have suffered. In fact, Vayante Copeland, Kaleel Gaines, Kenney Lyke and Demetric Vance are all gone.

Brents named his top six schools via Twitter on Monday.

While he says he’s still open to other offers, Brents named Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Michigan State in his top schools. It seems as if he’s leaning toward the Big Ten and the Midwest, but Vanderbilt is his only tie to the SEC and it’s on his list for a reason.

What he brings to the table could help the Spartans immediately in 2018.

The three-star safety has excellent field vision and is skilled at reading the play and quarterbacks’ eyes. He often breaks on a running play slightly early, but is athletic and long enough to recover and make a tackle, even if he over-pursues. This kid is not afraid to hit, and that’s the mindset a defensive back in the Big Ten needs.

Michigan State was the last to offer Brents on May 12. He’s listed as the No. 337 overall recruit and 25th-best safety, according to 247Sports. The Spartans could be expecting an official from him in the fall — if he hasn’t committed by then.
