Michigan State basketball received some good news on Friday as Gavin Schilling confirmed he will be back in 2017-18.

Coming off a knee injury isn’t easy for a college athlete. In fact, Gavin Schilling is looking to return after missing the entire 2016-17 Michigan State basketball season, but it won’t be easy.

However, according to Brendan F. Quinn of MLive, Schilling is ‘100 percent’ returning to Michigan State for a fifth year. That’s great news for the second day in a row for Tom Izzo and the Spartans.

On Thursday, Miles Bridges announced he’s be coming back for his sophomore year in the green and white, bypassing the NBA Draft where he’d be a lottery pick. He will join Nick Ward who is also returning for his sophomore year.

Although Schilling is returning for his fifth season, he has plenty of work to do. According to Quinn, he’s about 85 percent in his recovery and even worse with conditioning. How much worse? He says his conditioning is about a zero right now.

"“I’m excited about the frontcourt,” Schilling said. “The depth we have now, it’s going to be a battle in practice. But I’m ready. I’ve been getting better. I’m ready to compete. We’re going to make each other better, which will make us better as a team.”"

Michigan State is expected to be a top national title favorite in 2017-18 with Schilling, potentially Ben Carter, Ward and Bridges back.
