Former Michigan State football player Mylan Hicks, 23, dies
Former Michigan State football linebacker Mylan Hicks has passed away, leaving teammates and coaches shocked.
Just two months after the unexpected death of former Michigan State football star Mike Sadler, another Spartan has passed away. Mylan Hicks, a safety turned linebacker who played from 2010-14, had his life taken from him at the age of 23 early on Sunday morning.

After playing at Michigan State, the linebacker signed with the San Francisco 49ers before heading north to play for the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. The cause of death is still somewhat unknown, but the Stampeders say it was “an act of violence.”
It has been an extremely tough day in the sports world as 24-year-old Miami Marlins ace was also pronounced dead after a boating crash just off the shore of Miami.
Hicks joined Michigan State in 2010 from Detroit Renaissance and worked his way up the depth chart. The defense back positions were deep, so he made an unselfish switch to linebacker and recorded a career-high 19 tackles as a senior, looking like the player people expected him to be. Injuries unfortunately riddled his Spartan career.
Michigan State fans know him for being a hard-hitter with speed and athleticism and a winning attitude. He was part of one of the most successful eras in Michigan State football history.
Current and former Spartans were devastated by the news.

Yet another tough day for Spartan Nation to endure. Forget the loss on Saturday against the Badgers, some things are much bigger than football. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends on this tragic day.
UPDATE: Hicks’ death has been ruled a murder. He was killed in a nightclub shooting.
