Michigan State recruiting has been a joy to watch this offseason. Mark Dantonio had put together a phenomenal 2015 class headlined by guys like Keyonta Stallworth and Larry Scott, but the 2016 class is expected to have even more big names — and it’s already off to a great start.
The class kicked off with four-star wide receiver from New Jersey, Cam Chambers. He got the word out and helped lure in probably the most important recruit in recent memory: Messiah deWeaver. The four-star quarterback from Ohio has been recruiting and as four-star defensive tackle Naquan Jones put it, “He recruits more than the coaches sometimes.”
All of the 2016 commits talk about a “brotherhood” or a “family atmosphere” with each other and in East Lansing when they take the trip. That has led to the class growing to a solid number of 19 commits with about five or six more on the horizon to round out the group.
The Spartans have added four-star defensive tackles Mike Panasiuk and Naquan Jones, four-star defensive ends Auston Robertson and Josh King, four-star wide receiver Trishton Jackson and three-star linebacker Brandon Randle to the class in June alone, making for one of the hottest programs in the nation.
Although it seems like the class is about to be full, there are still a handful of recruits out there in which Dantonio would love to add. Top targets are aplenty still. even with just a few remaining spots in the 2016 group.
It may seem like Dantonio has gotten everyone he wants/needs for the class, there are about five guys that he is going to make a strong push for in the coming weeks to ensure his class rounds out just as summer ends.
Let’s take a look at the top five remaining targets, or so it seems, for Dantonio and the 2016 class.
