For what feels like the umpteenth year in a row, a Michigan State basketball player has fallen victim to a stress reaction in their leg/foot.

This time, it's walk-on sensation Nick Sanders, son of Lions legend Barry Sanders.

According to Tom Izzo, the Spartan walk-on who has scored a basket in three out of the past four games that he's appeared in has suffered a stress reaction and will miss the next 1.5 to two weeks.

This felt like inevitable news because it hadn't happened to any players yet and it's a fairly regular occurrence within this program. We've seen a different Spartan suffer this same exact injury every season like Jaxon Kohler last year and Jaden Akins before him. It's almost like a right of passage for a player to suffer a stress reaction while playing for this program.

Fortunately, this isn't an injury to a player in the regular rotation, although we hate to see injuries of any kind. We won't get to see the son of Barry Sanders knock down his patented jumper at the end of blowouts that sends the crowd into a frenzy for at least a couple of weeks which is disappointing.

If he truly misses just 1.5-2 weeks, Sanders will likely only miss the Penn State, Illinois, and Rutgers games and maybe the Minnesota contest to end the month of January. The only game I could really see him playing in during that stretch would be Minnesota because the other three opponents could cause some problems.

Let's hope he heals up nicely and is ready to ignite the Breslin Center crowd when he returns.
