Tom Izzo has had some special Michigan State basketball teams over the years.

There was obviously the 2000 national title team led by Mateen Cleaves but there were also others that don't get enough love like the 2009 national runner-up team led by Kalin Lucas and the 2019 Final Four team captained by Cassius Winston. We can't overlook the Travis Trice and Denzel Valentine-led Final Four team or the Gary Harris-led ones that had deep runs but never won what they probably should have.

All of those guys made some noise in March and helped contribute to Izzo's eight Final Fours.

And there's always a good indicator of what a Final Four team might look like and the KenPom rankings are a good start. In each of the Spartans' Final Four seasons in the past 20 years, Michigan State was ranked no lower than 20th on KenPom heading into the NCAA Tournament.

This year's team falls right into that range, sitting at No. 10 currently.

To further push the "Michigan State Final Four" agenda, Michigan State's KenPom ranking heading into the canceled 2020 NCAA Tournament was No. 7. That team was expected to make a legit national title run and they were arguably the hottest team in college basketball before the tournament got canceled due to COVID-19.

This year's team is looking the part, as Ben Stevens said above. The Spartans are playing good basketball on both ends of the floor and even with the poor 3-point shooting, they're legit national title contenders.

A lot of analytics are on Michigan State's side heading into the NCAA Tournament which bodes well and could make for another special March run.
