After earning a 2-seed in the first announced region in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball awaited their opponent and many believed it would be Frankie Fidler's old team, Omaha.
Seconds after Michigan State's name was called, it was matched up with No. 15 seed Bryant, the champion from the America East Conference. They cruised to the title in the tournament, winning each game by double figures, including beating Maine by 20 in the championship.
To say this won't be a walk in the park would be an understatement.
Bryant is coached by Phil Martelli Jr., the son of former Michigan assistant Phil Martelli, and he led them to a 9-1 finish to the regular season and conference tournament. They did have a rough start to the year which made it look like they had no shot at making the NCAA Tournament with a 6-9 record through 15 games, but they got hot and finished 17-2.
Michigan State, too, got hot near the end of the year, winning eight straight Quad 1 games before losing to Wisconsin in a heartbreaker in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
This should be a heck of a game.
