After taking Ole Miss down, 73-70, Michigan State basketball has advanced to the Elite Eight to face an Auburn team that has been playing some really good hoops lately.
The Spartans needed another comeback to beat Ole Miss as the Rebels took an early lead and made Michigan State play catch-up throughout the first half and for a good portion of the final 20 minutes. It wasn't easy, but the Spartans finally took a lead in the second half and never looked back in the final minutes, holding on for a huge win.
This is Michigan State's second Elite Eight in the past six years and it sets up a date with the Auburn Tigers after they beat Michigan by 13 points.
The Spartans and Tigers will now play on Sunday evening, but when will the two meet up in Atlanta?
Date: Sunday, March 30
Time: 5:05 p.m. ET
Location: Atlanta, Ga.
TV: CBS
Michigan State will get a nice turnaround here and these second games are when Tom Izzo thrives. In fact, he's 8-2 in Elite Eight games during his career and a win on Sunday will send him to his ninth Final Four as head coach of the Spartans. It would also put him in prime position to win his second national title.
The vibes around the program are at an all-time high, and if Jase Richardson can play like he did against Ole Miss on Sunday versus Auburn, the Spartans will be in good shape.
For the first time in this NCAA Tournament, though, Michigan State will be playing before 7 p.m. ET. It'll be nice to get this one out of the way and potentially set up a Final Four matchup.
