Another week of college football is in the books and while Michigan State won’t be sniffing the AP Top 25 this season, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate good ball and project the weekly rankings.

So that’s what we’re going to do.

Miami was able to hold on as Bill Belichick and North Carolina nearly pulled off the upset in Chapel Hill but the Hurricanes held on and remain undefeated. The No. 1 team in the country almost went down, but the Tar Heels ran out of gas. That near-loss won’t be enough to knock Miami from the No. 1 spot in college football.

As for the rest of the top five, Ohio State is about to drop out after losing to USC in embarrassing fashion. The Buckeyes just don’t look quite the same without Julian Sayin.

The Buckeyes are going to drop out of the top five with the loss and USC is going to jump back into the rankings after a short break.

Speaking of Big Ten teams who will see a lot of movement in this week’s AP Top 25, Indiana is going to continue to creep up into that top five at No. 3 with the Ohio State loss but the Hoosiers nearly fell out of the top 10 altogether. They were able to come back and force overtime in one of the most insane games of the season. They traded near-60-yard field goals to force overtime and then found a way to hold Minnesota out of the end zone despite the Gophers having a first-and-goal chance.

There weren’t a ton of other upsets, but the latest AP Top 25 college football rankings are about to look a lot different with a couple of teams dropping out.

Predicting the new college football AP Top 25 rankings

What could the new AP Top 25 look like on Sunday?

Note: Last week’s rankings in parentheses.

  1. Miami (1)
  2. Georgia (3)
  3. Indiana (4)
  4. Notre Dame (5)
  5. Utah (6)
  6. UCLA (7)
  7. Ohio State (2)
  8. BYU (8)
  9. Kentucky (9)
  10. Alabama (10)
  11. Texas (11)
  12. Texas Tech (13)
  13. Ole Miss (12)
  14. Wake Forest (14)
  15. LSU (15)
  16. Tennessee (16)
  17. USC (NR)
  18. Houston (18)
  19. Boise State (20)
  20. Missouri (23)
  21. Iowa (NR)
  22. Florida (17)
  23. New Mexico (NR)
  24. Oregon (NR)
  25. Northwestern (20)

Northwestern did lose to Oregon, but I see Aidan Chiles and the Wildcats staying in the AP Top 25 because they had a chance to send the game to overtime in the fourth.

Georgia picked up a nice win over Florida and while the Gators lost again, they’re going to remain in the AP Top 25 at No. 22 and Georgia will rise up to No. 2 and receive a handful of first-place votes after Miami played a tight game against UNC.

Say goodbye to the AP Top 25 this week, SMU, Oklahoma State, and Wisconsin. You guys all had a good run — sort of.
