If you were unlucky enough to stay up on Saturday night to watch a Michigan State loss to USC, you witnessed one of the scariest moments in recent memory, in terms of Spartan injuries.
Senior linebacker Wayne Matthews III went down with an injury, and the stretcher was promptly brought out, taking him to a waiting ambulance before driving him to the LA General Hospital. The team was clearly shaken by this injury, and they gave up a touchdown on the ensuing play. It was clear that this had them emotionally rattled -- and how couldn't it?
Fortunately, in the second half, the FOX broadcast announced that Matthews' motor skills were intact, per a Michigan State spokesperson.
That was a positive update, but Michigan State fans were hoping for some better news on Sunday. They got just that from Matthews himself.
Thank you for all your prayers and support! I’m doing a lot better now! I’ll be back in no time.

It's good to see that Matthews is in good spirits after suffering that scary injury which looked potentially season-ending on Saturday night. He wasn't moving much after being put on a stretcher. Usually that allows the worst thoughts to creep in, but thankfully, he's OK.
Although Matthews said that he'll be back in no time, it feels like he's going to miss an extended period of games. Players don't usually come back quickly after those types of injuries.
I won't speculate, and I'll take Matthews' word for it, he's doing much better, and he'll be back soon. That type of resilience is exactly why he's one of the Spartans' best leaders.
Matthews will be missed by this defense for however long he is out.
