Tom Izzo has been more relaxed, more motivated, and just overall happier after winning the Big Ten last season and leading his team back to the Elite Eight.
That was, until Tuesday afternoon.
Izzo and the rest of the sport learned the news of a G-League player with multiple years of experience at that level returning to college to play for Louisville in 2025-26. The news was shocking, and it rubbed a lot of people, especially Izzo, the wrong way.
The legendary Michigan State head coach took to the media for an epic rant on how the NCAA is failing both the coaching profession and student-athletes. He said that it’s embarrassing that it was allowed to happen, and it’s only going to hurt the sport more — and he also said that the NCAA needs to figure it out.
While Izzo does love his job, it’s situations like these that have to make him think retirement earlier than he probably would like.
But Izzo’s not alone in his thought process. Two-time national title-winning UConn head coach Dan Hurley chimed in with a couple of emojis, essentially stating that Izzo is spot on and that he’s the “GOAT” — or, greatest of all time.

Hurley can’t love this, either. He has one of the nation’s top title contenders, like Izzo, and when another contender is allowed to pick up G-League players, that not only hurts his chances to make it to the promised land, but it hurts the sport.
It sounds like Izzo spoke for all coaches when he sounded off on the NCAA.
