In one of the most shocking moves of the year, Michigan State basketball lost junior guard Tre Holloman to the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.

Obviously April 1 can bring a lot of annoying fake news reports and trolls from various accounts trying to act like some sensational news is true, but this one has been reported by anyone and everyone in the college sports world. When it came directly from a trusted news outlet, I believed it immediately because I've never seen a coordinated attack from multiple credible sources.

Would I like for this to be a bad April fool's joke? Absolutely. Do I think it is? Nope.

Holloman had a great junior season and averaged just under 10 points per game while being one of the Spartans' best shooters and a huge spark off the bench. He was one of the easiest guys on the team to root for and he became an instant fan favorite in Maui and only strengthened that throughout the year with the Maryland buzzer-beater and the logo-defending against Michigan.

It's a good thing Tom Izzo let him kiss the logo on senior day because of the way he defended it for his teammates because it looks like he won't be missing it next year.

This is one of the worst losses that I can remember at Michigan State because it just felt like Holloman was the perfect culture fit in East Lansing. He was a hard-working guard who wasn't afraid to get down and dirty and do the little things to lead his team to big wins.

I guess he'll be doing that elsewhere in 2025-26.
