Sometimes you have no control of what is happening around you. That's the case for a pair of former Michigan State basketball favorites.
Malik Hall and Cassius Winston have spent this season playing pro ball in Israel.
It's no secret that military action has been happening throughout the Middle East. With missile strikes occuring non-stop for the last four days. The concern is real for Spartan head coach Tom Izzo as he has been reaching out to check on both Hall and Winston.
Izzo spoke to the media on Tuesday, about the final home game, he also addressed that he and assistant coach Thomas Kelley have been able to speak with both Hall and Winston, and that they were working on a safe way for his former players to leave the country.
Hall was having a strong first season for Ironi Lati Kiryat Ata, averaging 15.8 points and 9.8 rebounds.
According to Lucas Gentilia from the State News, Hall had already left the country, bound for Belgrade, Serbia.
As for Winston, he plays for Hapoel Jerusalem, which is right in the heart of some of the attacks.
Izzo made it clear to any of his former players playing overseas that they need to leave any dangerous environment they might be in.
"Do what's best for you, which, from what I'm hearing from most, is to get out of there," Izzo said. "Whatever it takes, I'll make sure I'm helping do that."
It’s a scary time around the world, and it’s good to see that Izzo is trying to be a helping hand with players who graduated years ago. Everything good that’s said about Izzo and his treatment of former players appears to be true time and time again.
