There's been a common belief among the Michigan State fanbase that a second national title for Tom Izzo would likely lead to his retirement from the sport.

It's been an assumption for as long as I can remember, even dating back to my days as a Michigan State student about a decade ago. Many thought that if he won a second national title, he would hang it up and call it a career. But the Hall of Famer has other plans.

On Kay Adams' podcast on Thursday, she said that her worry was that he would just ride off into the sunset after winning a second national title and the 70-year-old head coach laughed it off, stating that winning No. 2 would only re-energize him and cause him to return for more.

Izzo went on to say that he doesn't believe that you have to leave at the highest point, clarifying that he doesn't plan on leaving on a low point either. But he believes that winning his second national title will just make him want to return and defend that and chase No. 3 in the process.

I think I speak for everyone when I say a second national title will put him in the conversation as one of the best coaches of all time. He's already there, but a second title would really solidify his position among the all-time greats.

Izzo isn't comfortable with where Michigan State is right now and he's never content with the success he's experienced. He always wants more. And that will continue to be the case.

Yes, even if he wins national title No. 2 this year or in the coming years.
