This commitment doesn't come as a huge surprise because he visited this week and rumors circulated about him joining the Spartans as backcourt aid for Jeremy Fears Jr.
With this commitment, Michigan State now has a solid shooting guard option for that starting five and a backcourt with a veteran like Fort alongside Fears will give opposing teams some problems. If Fears can work on his offensive game this offseason, he's going to combine for a lethal combination in the backcourt as Fort can score in bunches and isn't afraid to take the reins offensively.
While this isn't quite a perfect replacement for Jase Richardson, Fort is going to provide some nice touch from deep (38 percent in 2024-25) and also the ability to get hot and stay hot.
Fort led the Bulldogs in scoring this past season at 14.6 points per game. With his 6-foot-4 frame, he also grabbed 4.0 rebounds per game and had 1.4 assists to 1.1 turnovers. If the Spartans don't have a backup point guard option, Fort will need to develop into a better passer.
Michigan State's 2025-26 roster is taking nice shape this offseason as Tom Izzo has now landed two transfers in Fort and Kaleb Glenn from FAU. Both were their respective teams' leading scorers.
Depth should not be an issue next season even with Richardson, Tre Holloman, Jaden Akins, Xavier Booker, Gehrig Normand, Frankie Fidler, and Szymon Zapala leaving. The Spartans will be bringing in Cam Ward and Jordan Scott from the 2025 class and Glenn and Fort from the portal.
No complaints here.
