Tom Izzo has created quite the family atmosphere in East Lansing.

So much so, in fact, that he had to ground one of his former players for acting up. It made for one of the most bizarre moments that you’re going to see all season.

The Hall of Fame head coach had an interaction with a former player who was seated in the lower bowl of Monday’s Izzone alumni game against USC before telling him to leave the stands.

Paul Davis was seen near the court saying something to the refs before that official came over to Izzo, told him what was being said, and Tom had no problem embarrassing his former players on national TV.

The entire interaction was just… odd.

Davis was seen drinking something that resembles an adult iced tea (not familiar, wouldn’t know), and he uttered something to the refs while standing up. The ref turned to him, walked over to Izzo, and then play stopped while his former coach told him to “get outta here” in front of thousands.

I’m not quite sure what he could’ve said to warrant that type of reaction from Izzo, but I have some ideas.

This will go down as one of the all-time bizarre moments in MSU basketball history.

Paul Davis, Michigan State legend

Davis had himself an impressive career in East Lansing from 2002-06. He played four seasons for Izzo and averaged 13.2 points and 7.0 rebounds before trying his hand in the NBA. He got some opportunities, but never quite panned out.

At Michigan State, however, he was one of the best players on a team that made the Final Four when he was a junior.

Unfortunately, as a senior, he was bounced in the first round. His teams saw some success with a Final Four and an Elite Eight but he also saw two first-round exits. Still, Davis is one of the better bigs that Izzo has coached at Michigan State and he’s going to be remembered as such.

Well, now he might be remembered for getting kicked out of the 2026 Izzone Alumni game, but he was still a hooper.
