If you know anything about Tom Izzo, you would know that he values the art of rebounding. He has been preaching rebounding since he started coaching at Michigan State, and his teams have been some of the best in the country at rebounding the ball over the years.
So seeing the Spartans dominate yet another Big Ten opponent on the glass on Tuesday night wasn’t exactly a shock.
Michigan State has been living on the glass all season, and the rest of the Big Ten is starting to feel the effects of that. Playing Michigan State isn’t an easy task, and now that the Spartans are shooting the ball a little better, accounting for shooters on the perimeter while also making sure to crash the glass has been a nightmare for opposing Big Ten teams.
Indiana was the latest victim to the Spartans’ rebounding dominance on Tuesday.
The Spartans out-rebounded Indiana 37-19 in the 21-point win, including grabbing 13 offensive rebounds to Indiana’s five. Getting out-worked like that isn’t going to make many coaches happy, but when you go up against Michigan State, it’s almost a given that you’ll be fighting for every board and loose ball for 40 minutes.
One stat really stood out for Michigan State vs. Indiana
The Michigan State rebounding dominance was expected against the Hoosiers, but there’s one stat that stood out, proving that the Spartans may be the best on the glass in the country.
Indiana went a whole 11 minutes without a live-ball rebound in the second half against the Spartans.
Wild.
#iubb didn’t get a single live-ball rebound over the 19-0 Michigan State run in the second half, spanning nearly 7 minutes of action.

Indiana went 11 minutes without one in the second half, from Reed Bailey’s offensive rebound at 12:34 to Trent Sisley’s defensive board at 1:00.…
You just know Darian DeVries is going to be coaching rebounding all week at practice before the Hoosiers take the floor again. That was a wake-up call for the first-year Indiana head coach.
That 19-0 run was dominant offensively and defensively for the Spartans, but there’s rebounding prowess really flew under the radar. Keeping a team off the glass for more than half of a 20-minutes without half is incredibly dominant. This might got down as one of Izzo’s best rebounding teams ever, and this performance was an all-timer.
When the Spartans are locked in, there’s no one stopping them.
