It’s hard to criticize Tom Izzo for his usage of the transfer portal these days because he’s embraced the fact that Michigan State needs to adjust to the times.
Last year, Izzo landed Frankie Fidler and Szymon Zapala who each played a decent-sized role in getting Michigan State to the Elite Eight after capturing a Big Ten title for the first time since 2020. This year, he landed Divine Ugochukwu, Trey Fort, and Kaleb Glenn from the portal, and one of them happens to be a starter — for now.
Oh, and he also landed Denham Wojcik.
That makes seven transfer additions over the past two years, and he’s still having some serious success. However, one of those transfers has yet to see the court for Michigan State.
Glenn suffered a leg injury before the season began and he was ruled out for the rest of the season. It was a tough loss for a team that had already lost so much in the offseason like Jase Richardson, Tre Holloman, Jaden Akins, Xavier Booker, Fidler, Zapala, and Gehrig Normand. The team needed more shooters, and Glenn was supposed to fill that role.
Unfortunately, his injury would prevent him from helping Michigan State make a run at a second straight Big Ten title and deep NCAA Tournament run.
There’s been a positive update to his injury recovery, however.
Kaleb Glenn is starting to go through drills
Glenn could be a special player in East Lansing when he is healthy, and the fact that he’s already been teammates with Jeremy Fears should help him adjust when he is back.
But that may be sooner than expected.
Although I don’t believe he’ll return by the end of the season as Izzo has already ruled him out, AndrewTalksHoops on Twitter got a good video of him before the Michigan game and it looks like his recovery is going really well. He’s going through pre-game drills with the student managers, and his movement doesn’t look like someone who was on crutches a couple of months ago.
Not that this matters at this specific moment… but Glenn starting to move pretty well 👀 pic.twitter.com/4GT9yEoX1j

Glenn has a long way to go, but he looks comfortable out there going half-speed in a layup drill. This is something that we haven’t seen from the FAU transfer since his injury.
Could Izzo use him later in the season in a pinch? I’m sure he could run him out there in March if he wanted to, but why potentially burn a redshirt on a guy who hasn’t played with the current roster all season? Glenn should head into the offseason with plenty of confidence now that he’s moving much better.
The 2026-27 team is going to be fun with another 40 percent 3-point shooter.
