The perfect Michigan State transfer center target is finally in the portal

This dude has Spartan written all over him.

A week ago, I wrote about how I believed that the perfect big man transfer target for Michigan State had yet to hit the transfer portal, and with the window opening on Tuesday, time was running out for him to decide.

Although he obviously could have waited a little longer to announce, that elite center target has officially hit the portal, and I think he’s still the perfect fit for Michigan State.

Who is this mysterious big man?

It’s none other than Detroit native and Alabama sophomore Aiden Sherrell, a 6-foot-10 big man who averaged 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game this past season.

Michigan State has a chance to add a second McDonald’s All-American to its roster this offseason if he does decide to give the Spartans a look. It would make more sense than anything because Michigan State was a finalist for Sherrell before he committed to Alabama, and many believed that the Spartans were a close second in his recruitment.

Now that he’s back on the market, he could opt to go with the program he chose Alabama over and build on what he did as a sophomore with the Crimson Tide.

There’s a prime opportunity in East Lansing to compete for a national title while starting at center.

Aiden Sherrell would be a perfect fit

What does Tom Izzo look for in a transfer? Guys who are team players, can come in and fit the system, and who want to be coached hard. Sherrell fits all of those descriptions. Izzo never would have recruited him in the first place if he didn’t fit Michigan State’s culture already.

There’s relationship between Izzo and Sherrell is there, the starting job at center is wide open, and Michigan State is arguably an elite-level center with experience away from being a title favorite.

There’s going to be a line for Sherrell now that he’s in the portal, but just imagine the potential starting five if Michigan State is able to land him:

PG: Jeremy Fears Jr.
SG: Jordan Scott/Jasiah Jervis
SF: Coen Carr
PF: Cam Ward
C: Aiden Sherrell

Thats’s a team that would play for a national title next season. Not only are there some shooters (Scott, Jervis, Sherrell, and hopefully Fears), but there’s elite athleticism that would give just about every team fits next year. This is a team that could just wear opponents down by running and gunning.

Sherrell is a big guy (6-10, 255 pounds) from Detroit who can stretch the floor (33.8% from three), dominate in the post, rebound at a high level, and protect the rim at a high level (2.2 blocks).

How can this dude not be a perfect Spartan fit? His game is basically begging for a call from Izzo.
