Tom Izzo got his point guard back. After one of the longest days in recorded Michigan State fan history, Jeremy Fears Jr. announced his intention to return to East Lansing for his junior year just two hours before the NBA draft decision deadline.
The news sparked plenty of conversations about Michigan State's potential with him returning and the ceiling for this team drastically rising.
He's also been talked about as a favorite to win the Big Ten Player of the Year award which hasn't been won by a Spartan since Cassius Winston. Before that, it was Denzel Valentine. It's also very possible that Fears becomes a national player of the year frontrunner and he'll be on every preseason first-team All-American projection.
Izzo is thrilled with the news and it was what he was expecting, but the wait didn't make it any less stressful. Michigan State fans, too, are fired up.
Social media went insane when the news broke late on Wednesday night and everyone, even rival fans, got their takes in. Some were hot, some were mild, and some were ice-cold, but Fears' return is arguably the most polarizing in college hoops considering he's probably the nation's top point guard.
Social media reacts to the Michigan State PG's return
If you were awake at around 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, you would have immediately seen the outpouring of opinions on Twitter and Facebook. Social media went crazy with the news of his return, and I've seen every take under the sun from "guard your privates" from rival fans who think they're funny to "national title or bust".
Spartan fans didn't love the wait but it was well worth it because the point guard who many believe will be responsible for leading Izzo to his second national title is back.
Here were some of the most interesting social media reactions to the Fears news.
This doesn’t surprise me at all, but I’m also more optimistic right now than ever about Jeremy Fears being an NBA player. Another year of seasoning his game won’t hurt, especially if he improves a bit as a shooter https://t.co/DlcoTwVq8D

The national leader in assists this past season is returning to East Lansing. Jeremy Fears is running it back for his junior season.

Tom Izzo with a veteran point guard = success. Add in Coen Carr plus major breakout candidate Jordan Scott and MSU is top 10 worthy.
The best player in the country, playing for the most popular program in the country is returning to school. Jeremy Fears Jr playing for Michigan State next season is the biggest player acquisition the sport has seen in years. Go Green. Go White.

Haven’t you heard the good news about our lord and savior Jeremy Fears? https://t.co/dcmngW1Npf

I decided against sharing opinions from rival fans who only want to take personal shots at Fears because they've been nasty all season. Everyone outside of Ann Arbor realizes just how great of a player Fears is and how big this news is for Michigan State.
The Spartans are going to be a top-five team with Fears returning for another season and soak it in, folks, this could very well be the final year that we get to enjoy this All-American point guard.
National title loading?
