Wednesday was another good day to be a Michigan State fan as Pat Fitzgerald made one of the best hires he could’ve possibly made: he brought Max Bullough home.

After spending the past few seasons with Notre Dame as a grad assistant and linebackers coach, helping to lead the Irish to the College Football Playoff National Championship last season. He was an instrumental figure on that defense with the linebackers being a strength.

Now, the Michigan State legend and former Big Ten champion will be back in East Lansing as the team’s linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator.

And, according to reports, Notre Dame did “everything they can” to try and keep him, but saying no to his alma mater and trying to get it back to where it belongs had to be a goal of Max’s. There’s no doubt that he wanted this job since getting back into coaching, and it could lead to him eventually taking over as head coach — hopefully after a long, successful Fitzgerald tenure.

Bullough and Fitzgerald are familiar with each other because Max played against some of those Northwestern teams, and there were some battles.

It figures that Bullough is Fitzgerald’s guy seeing as both are former All-Big Ten linebackers and exude toughness. There couldn’t be a better start to a defensive coaching staff than what Fitzgerald has put together so far — Bullough, Joe Rossi, James Adams.

Defense is making a comeback in East Lansing, folks.

Social media erupts at the Max Bullough news

While a lot of the talk on social media today has been about the Sherrone Moore debacle, Bullough’s news cut through that like a hot knife through butter for Spartan fans.

Finally, they could focus on something other than a Michigan scandal.

As you can imagine, fans were ecstatic about the news as Twitter nearly exploded.

As you can see, Michigan State fans are thrilled with the news and the consensus is that Notre Dame fans are very upset. Can’t get much better than that.

Oh, and Michigan State plays Notre Dame in South Bend this season. Cinema.
