When Jonathan Smith was hired as Michigan State’s next head coach, he faced some tough conversations. He had to talk to the quarterback room about the immediate future, and kind of drop a hint about Aidan Chiles joining him in East Lansing.
That drove guys like Noah Kim, Katin Houser, and Sam Leavitt away as they all wanted to be ‘the guy’ and there were going to be too many cooks in the kitchen.
Kim transferred to Coastal Carolina and now he’s the starter at Eastern Michigan, Houser transferred to East Carolina where he’s still the starter, and Leavitt went to Arizona State where he beat out a five-star for the starting job. He led Arizona State to the playoff in 2024, and was a top Heisman candidate to start the 2025 season.
Now, he’s apparently shopping around for a new home. It looks like he would’ve left Michigan State even if he did decide to stay and start for Smith instead of Chiles.
BREAKING: Arizona State star QB Sam Leavitt's return to the program in 2026 is doubtful, @SWiltfong_ & @PeteNakos report.

Leavitt's camp is actively shopping the talented passer “at a high level”

You read that right, Leavitt is apparently “shopping” himself around after spending the last two seasons with Arizona State. This is just a report, and there’s a chance it could get shut down by the Leavitt camp, but the silence is deafening.
The starting quarterback for a Power Four team coming off a playoff berth is deciding to shop around for a new home, and that’s just horrible for the sport.
So for all the fans who were upset when Leavitt decided to leave and always thought “what if he stayed?”, it’s probably good he didn’t because he would’ve started and then bolted for more money.
What happened to the sport we love?
