It's truly hard to believe that we are mere hours away from the start of the 2024 Michigan State football season. It feels like we've waited years for this as the Spartans shuffled head coaches for the second time in the past five years.

Back in 2020, Michigan State hired Mel Tucker to replace a suddenly-retired Mark Dantonio and fans were thrilled with the move because it felt like the options were limited when the process took place. And in 2023, Tucker was fired for inappropriate conduct with a university vendor.

In November, the Spartans hired Jonathan Smith from Oregon State to replace Tucker. He brings a very Dantonio-esque "low ego, high output" motto with him to East Lansing.

That Smith era begins on Friday night as the Spartans will play host to an upset-hungry FAU team that's not going to go away quietly. The Owls are led by former Ohio State assistant and Texas head coach Tom Herman who had some great things to say about the Spartan Stadium atmosphere -- he basically said it was louder than the Big House.

Everyone is excited for this matchup and it's time to get the season underway. The two teams will meet at 7 p.m. ET on Friday night and the game will be on the Big Ten Network.

Wondering who the announcers will be? You're in the right place.

According to 506sports.com, the play-by-play announcer will be Jason Ross Jr., who also works for ESPN and is one of the voices of the WNBA's Chicago Sky, and the color analyst is Brock Vereen. These two will kick off the 2024 season for the Spartans and hopefully they'll be calling a comfortable win for the green and white.
