Veteran Michigan State football WR reportedly injured
Michigan State football is two weeks into their fall camp and alternatively are about two weeks away from their week one matchup against Florida Atlantic. And as fall camp progresses there really is only one major concern for every team: Injuries.
There’s nothing worse in sports than injuries, but that’s amplified when they occur outside of the actual season. And unfortunately for Michigan State, one of their veteran leaders on offense has reportedly picked up a minor injury.
According to Michigan State 247Sports reporter Stephen Brooks, Jonathan Smith has shared that wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. has picked up an injury. The Spartans just had their first fall scrimmage this past Saturday, and it sounds like that is when the injury occurred.
Smith did not share what the injury was that Foster suffered, but it does sound like it is minor. We know this because later in Brooks’ post above he shares that Smith mentioned nobody has suffered a long-term injury from the scrimmage.
Even though the injury doesn’t sound bad, this is still one of the last things I wanted to see. Injuries are impossible to avoid in football, but Foster is one of the last players Michigan State can afford to lose on offense. He is the clear No. 1 receiver on the team and the only receiver with any substantial success on the field at the college level. Knowing that, it’s pretty obvious that MSU needs Foster all season long.
But as Smith mentioned, this injury doesn’t appear to be substantial and hopefully won’t keep him from playing week one against Florida Atlantic. I imagine Foster will be sidelined for a little bit during fall camp as a precaution, but I hope he’s able to get healthy quick and back on the field so he can be as prepared for the season as possible.
I have high hopes for Foster this season and think him and Aidan Chiles could be a deadly combo. I’m not ready to back off of those high expectations yet, but this is something to definitely monitor in the coming weeks.
