Top 5 plays from Michigan State football’s win over Maryland
1. Chiles 77-yard TD pass to Nick Marsh
And my top play of the game goes to Chiles and Marsh who linked up again for a 77-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
This play on its own is good enough to be the top play of the game. Chiles has struggled with his deep ball this season, but this was the third one he hit this game and it met Marsh’s hands in perfect stride. The fact he was also able to throw a perfect ball over 50 yards in the air is still something I can’t wrap my head around.
But the thing that puts this play over the top for me is the timing of it. With just over four minutes left I think we were all hoping for a long drive to force overtime. But Chiles and Marsh had other plans. This quick touchdown made it possible to still win the game in regulation, which thankfully happened after the defense made a big stop right after.
This play also came right after Maryland missed a crucial field goal that could’ve put the Terps up by 10. So in the matter of two plays, all the momentum shifted from Maryland to Michigan State and the Spartans were able to ride that wave the rest of the game.
The future is bright with Chiles and Marsh, and I can’t wait to see what these two do next.
