1. Beating Duke to reach the 2019 Final Four

And the best moment of Winston’s career by far is when he led Michigan State to their victory over Duke in the 2019 Elite Eight. This win clinched Izzo’s eighth Final Four of his career and came against one of the greatest college basketball teams of all time.

In true Winston fashion, he was dominant the entire game while playing all 40 minutes. He finished with a smooth 20 point, 10 assist double-double and never really made a mistake all game.

Two plays immediately come to mind when I think about this game. The first obviously is Kenny Goins’ 3-pointer to take the lead late in the game. But the second was the final inbounds pass to Winston as he dribbled out the clock. I’ll never forget Zion Williamson trying (and failing) to catch Winston and foul him.

Then Winston through the ball up in the air and the celebration was on.

This win would probably go down as one of the 10 best in Michigan State history, and a lot of that is thanks to Winston. Unfortunately he never got one more chance to make the Final Four, but this one still brings a smile to my face whenever I think about it.
