Let me know if you've heard this statement before: Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo does not like the current state of the NCAA and college basketball.

Izzo has sounded off on many aspects of college basketball and the NCAA in general over the last few years including the transfer portal and NIL. And he once again is voicing his displeasure in a recent interview with WILX reporter Owen Oszust.

While it has become normal to hear Izzo voice all of these displeasures, one thing I haven't heard him say before is that he thinks coaches will begin to retire if the NCAA doesn't change the trajectory they're on.

""If it goes like it's going now, whether it’s Tom Izzo or not, there's going to be a lot of coaches in football and basketball that will be out.""

Now thankfully it doesn't sound like the current state of college basketball is a deterrent for Izzo, but he still thinks it will be for many other coaches. And when you think about it, this trend has already begun for some.

Over the past few years, we have seen many of the greatest coaches of all time suddenly retire. Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, and Jay Wright are a few of the most recent well known college basketball coaches to call it quits. Even Nick Saban from Alabama joined them this year.

So while these retirements do not directly impact Michigan State in any way, it's still a sign of an unsustainable future. As someone who absolutely loves college athletics, I would hate to see the product continue down the path that it's own. So hopefully the NCAA will listen to guys like Izzo and make some serious change before it's too late.
