The transfer portal and Tom Izzo don't exactly have the best relationship. Sure, he's had some luck with transfers like Joey Hauser and Tyson Walker most recently, but he's been outspoken about the portal being bad for a lot of players who "made bad decisions" by entering.

But this offseason is big for Izzo as he knows that adding a star or two from the portal could be the difference between a Round of 32 exit and a trip to the Final Four.

On Friday, he appeared on one of the most popular sports podcasts in America, Pardon My Take.

It was a nice surprise appearance by the coach because PMT is one of the most watched and listened to podcasts today and it usually adds a ton of humor to each interview. Seeing Izzo on there was interesting but he delivered a great appearance.

And of course, the transfer portal came up in the discussion. His take was actually fair and it should have some fans excited about the upcoming season. He basically says he still thinks the portal is bad for a majority of players who enter, but he gave a "when in Rome" answer to if he'll use it.

"I might, I might," was Izzo's answer to if he would be in the portal this offseason. It's a step in the right direction, but I think he's seen firsthand that he needs to use the portal or the program could be fighting just to get into the NCAA Tournament every year.

In order to get back to deeper runs "or die trying", Izzo needs to utilize the portal and his "when in Rome" quote was an indication that he's prepared to do that.

I'll take that as a positive development.
