2. Geno VanDeMark, OL

The second and by far more impactful Spartan to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday was offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark. While Boyd didn't feel like a massive loss, VanDeMark hurts. VanDeMark was set to be a starter on the Michigan State offensive line this year and be one of the leaders not just for the unit, but for the entire team.

VanDeMark is coming off a season where he appeared in eight games and made six starts, so losing him is devastating. Especially when you add in the fact that a depth piece like Boyd just entered the portal before him, this makes VanDeMark's announcement one of the worst for Michigan State this offseason.

I don't think Jonathan Smith and his staff need to panic, however. Does Michigan State need to get at least one offensive lineman out of the portal now if not multiple? Absolutely. But there is no need for Smith to rush into it too fast and make the wrong selection. He needs to make sure he gets a quality player that will mesh well with the rest of the team, and someone who's ready to stay at Michigan State for the rest of their career.
