4. Offensive Line

This group is also a big question mark going into the season, but the pathway to being an asset is there, starting with the offensive line coach Jim Michalczik. He had built a high-end offensive line that was second in the Pac-12 in rushing yards per game and was a finalist of the Joe Moore Award which is handed out to the best offensive line unit in the country.

Individually speaking, Michalczik was nominated for the Broyles Award in 2023 which is given to the nation's top assistant coach. While he didn't win it, just being recognized as one of the top assistants is the kind of leadership needed in this program.

As for the players, the transfer portal took away quite a few starters, but those starters weren't exactly All-American and produced the worst rushing attack in the Big Ten and the only team in the conference to average under 100 yards rushing per game.

The Spartans return potential starters Brandon Baldwin, Kristian Phillips, and Dallas Fincher and other depth pieces, but also brought in high level transfers like former MSU recruiting target Andrew Dennis and second-team All-American Tanner Miller who comes over with Michalczik and Jonathan Smith.

The potential is there and if this team is even average at the offensive line position, it should make for a few more wins in 2024.
