Projecting defensive starters for Michigan State football in 2024
Punter: Ryan Eckley
Michigan State’s punter, Ryan Eckley, is just as good if not better than Kim.
Last year as a freshman may have been one of the better seasons as a freshman kicker in MSU history. Eckley had a punt average of 46.8 yards which was the fifth-longest in program history. This also was No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 8 in the country last year.
Eckley also ranked second in the Big Ten in 50-yard punts with 24 and was also fourth in the conference in punts inside the 20 with 23.
On top of being a Freshman All-American, he was named to the All-Big Ten second team both by the coaches and media. And the best part of all of this? Eckley still has three years of eligibility remaining.
Michigan State has a long history of elite punters in their program and that trend isn’t ending any time soon with Eckley. His ability to both flip the field and pin opponents deep on their side of the field is a huge asset to have.
Now let’s just hope the entire team improves so Michigan State doesn’t have to rely on Eckley as much this season.
