With all of Spartan Nation's attention now on football it only makes sense for some big news to be dropped about Michigan State basketball's upcoming season.

The Spartans are yet to release their official non-conference schedule, but over time we have found out about a few games that will be on the schedule. And that is exactly what happened Monday night when a future opponent leaked that they will be traveling to East Lansing to play Michigan State this December.

According to many school representives, Florida Atlantic will travel to Michigan State on Dec. 21. This will be one of Michigan State's last tuneup games before the bulk of Big Ten play begins, but FAU is no joke of a program.

Just two years ago Florida Atlantic made the 2022 Final Four by winning the region Michigan State was in. In fact, if Michigan State would have held on against Kansas State in the Sweet 16 the Spartans would have faced 9-seed FAU in the Elite Eight with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

So while this shows that FAU is a program that needs to be respected, this year's team is vastly different from that Final Four team. Florida Atlantic will have a brand new head coach as Dusty May has moved on and is now the head coach at Michigan. That coaching change caused a lot of their players to leave the program as well, so there really isn't much known about what this team will look like this season.

Florida Atlantic joins a few other known non-conference games including Kansas in the Champions Classic, Oakland, Colorado in the first round of the Maui Invitational, and Bowling Green.

The Spartans still have about half of their non-conference schedule to release and there unfortunately is not a known date for when that will be. But it is a safe assumption that it will be announced sometime in September and knowing Tom Izzo it will have at least one more marquee opponent on it.

FAU should be a good test for the Spartans, and the fact that Michigan State football plays FAU this season as well makes this game that much more exciting.
