Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith made the perfect choices for representation at Big Ten Media Days this week.

Dillon Tatum, Nate Carter, and Jack Velling represented Michigan State at the media event and while that might seem like a surprising trio of Spartans, it felt like there was a method behind the madness that was the selection. One of the choices was a lifelong Michigander who committed to Michigan State out of high school (Tatum), one was a transfer who spent a year with the program already (Carter), and the last is a brand-new Spartan who has yet to play a game in East Lansing (Velling).

Tatum has shared his thoughts on the program, saying it's up to him to make sure it doesn't regress and it gets back to its winning ways. Velling has talked about how Aidan Chiles is looking like the leader everyone expected him to be. And Carter said that the team is hungry to prove people wrong.

But Carter had more than just that to say. He also had one of the best quotes of the week regarding his love for Michigan State and the football program.

Jim Comparoni spotted the quote in a Paul Konyndyk article.

"“I love Michigan State,” Carter said. “You want to go to a school that you would love even if you weren’t playing football. And for me, Michigan State is that school. I love the culture here. I love the family atmosphere here. I want to play football here. I want to stay here. I want my kids to go here. I love this school not because of the football aspect, but because what Michigan State is.”"

Nate Carter, Michigan State RB

The "I love Michigan State" quote is an all-timer because everything he says is how all Michigan State alums feel. He obviously loves the program, but he admitted that he would love the school even if he wasn't playing football. The "family atmosphere" is a common term used when describing Michigan State and the fact that he said he would want his kids to go there is a massive statement.

It's cool to see even newer players on the team have such glowing remarks about Michigan State and Carter feels like the perfect representative for both the football program and the university.
