Michigan State football is coming off its first Big Ten loss of the Jonathan Smith era after losing 38-7 at home to Ohio State. A loss by that many points at home can be a dangerous thing to a football team especially considering it was Michigan State's second loss of the season.

While it was never likely for MSU to win the Big Ten or make the College Football Playoff this season, that surely was some of the goals the players on this Michigan State team had for themselves. But this loss all but ended their chances at accomplishing both of these things. So the fear now is that the team's mindset and motivation will take a hit now that those goals are impossible to reach.

Nate Carter discussed this in his postgame interview and it sounds like that isn't going to a problem.

Carter is one of the leaders of this team, so whatever he says likely will resonate with the rest of the team. So if Carter thinks this team has a "different mindset", one that it only going to "increase" after the loss to Ohio State then I truly believe that will occur.

I really hope Carter is right because the season is only going to get more difficult from here. Six of Michigan State's final seven opponents were either ranked or receiving votes from voters in this week's AP Poll, so that right there shows you how difficult the rest of the season will be.

But as long as the team has the mindset Carter shares then they will definitely still have their fair share of wins the rest of the season.
