Michigan State football transfer OL Ethan Boyd no longer with Colorado
Michigan State football is no stranger to the transfer portal and that goes back to the Mel Tucker days when he was able to land some big-time talent through that avenue.
Guys like Kenneth Walker III and Jacoby Windmon were stars for the Spartans during the Tucker era after coming to Michigan State from the portal. But the portal also taketh as much as it giveth, and Jonathan Smith -- and Tucker -- found that out the hard way.
This past offseason, Smith saw dozens of Spartans enter the transfer portal following his hiring and while it's fair because he wasn't the coach they committed to play for, it was surprising to see some of the names depart like Derrick Harmon, Simeon Barrow, Geno VanDeMark, and a guy like Ethan Boyd who felt like he bled green.
Boyd was the most surprising quick commitment after entering the transfer portal for a second time during the offseason, picking Deion Sanders and Colorado.
Well, just days before fall camp began in Boulder, it was announced that Boyd was no longer with the program and he reportedly retired from football.
The same reporter, Brian Howell, who reported he wasn't joining the team also replied to questioning Colorado fans, saying that he's reportedly retiring from the sport.
There was talk that he might do this while he was still in East Lansing which is why it was so surprising to see him commit to Colorado in the offseason. Few assumed he was going to just retire and attend school as a student, but he tranferred away and now is planning on doing that after joining the Buffaloes.
We'll see if he comes back home to East Lansing to finish his academic career at Michigan State or if he plans on staying in Boulder.
