Jonathan Smith has been working hard to improve this Michigan State football roster and he's done that through the transfer portal via new players and Spartans who had entered but he has convinced to withdraw.

It looks like he's targeting another position of need now: receiver.

Smith has already worked on the offense at quarterback, tight end, and even receiver, but he's looking to add more depth there. He's already landed TJ Sheffield (Purdue) and convinced Jaron Glover and Montorie Foster Jr. to return. So why not just add another top target?

According to reports, Michigan State is expecting to get a visit from Troy wide receiver Jabre Barber at some point.

This would be a great development for the Spartans to add to a growingly-impressive receiving corps which has guys like Sheffield, Glover, Foster, Antonio Gates Jr., and Nick Marsh heading into next season. Adding a potential WR1 like Barber would only take some pressure off the younger guys so they wouldn't be thrown into the fire.

Michigan State was heading into the offseason with serious question marks at receiver, especially with Foster mulling a departure, Tyrell Henry transferring, Glover entering the portal, and Tre Mosley graduating and heading to the NFL draft. But now it looks to be a strength.

Adding a receiver who just finished 2023 with 75 catches for 999 yards and five touchdowns this season would help the younger guys grow and provide yet another threat for Aidan Chiles.

While I'm not convinced that MSU lands Barber, I think he'd make this offense scary.
