The previous Michigan State football coaching staff liked to talk about how relentlessly they recruited, but Jonathan Smith and Co. are the exact opposite. No, I'm not saying they aren't working hard, but they're doing it in silence.

It's refreshing.

And we're seeing the benefits of this staff's hard work on the recruiting trail in the form of 21 transfer commits and 21 prospects in the 2024 class coming in as well as five 2025 commits. It's clear that this staff has a "move in silence" mentality that is paying off.

A post by Kenny Jordan on Twitter proved that.

With pretty much every assistant on the recruiting trail this week, it's clear that this staff is putting in serious work and they're not complacent. I feel like that was a huge problem with the last staff as they would put all their eggs in one basket and if they didn't land their 'Plan A' guy, they were pretty much out of luck. That doesn't seem to be a problem here.

We're seeing a staff that has a track record of developing players put in the work to land guys that they feel have serious potential.

Michigan State may not be landing four-stars on a regular basis, but the staff is getting its 'Plan A' targets and it's refreshing to see them close on guys. They're not just aiming to get the big names on campus for official visits, they're getting players who can be developed into solid, productive Spartans.

This staff has a very early Mark Dantonio era feel to it.
