This is scary.

We all know that Michigan State football’s 16-10 win over Florida Atlantic wasn’t good enough. Sure a win’s a win, but that was about as ugly as a win will come.

Even with how poorly Michigan State played, MSU still had some players standout. However, the players we all expected to be the best on the field were actually the worst according to PFF.

PFF released their player ratings for Michigan State’s game vs. FAU and Aidan Chiles, Jack Velling, Nate Carter, and Montorie Foster Jr. were the four lowest rated players on the team. So it’s no wonder Michigan State only scored 16 points and failed to scored in the last 2.5 quarters.

This to me is very concerning because heading into the season I would have listed these four guys as the four best players on Michigan State’s offense. But for them to statistically be the worst on the team is a scary thing to see.

On the flip side however, this could also be viewed as a good thing. Still winning by six, even against a lesser program like FAU, is at least a little impressive after how bad they played. So just imagine how much more Michigan State would’ve won by had these four played just decent on Friday.

This also tells us that some guys that we may have had lower expectations for played extremely well. I’m thinking about players like Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams and Michael Masunas. If they can keep their production up with the other four meeting their expectations, then this offense could be very scary.

One things for sure however, all four are going to have to play much better if they’re going to beat Maryland next week. The Terps are coming off a dominant week one win where they scored 50 points, so the Michigan State offense will have to score a fair amount to have a chance on the road.
