Michigan State football RB Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams ready for opportunity
By Kaleb Kraus
When Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams takes the field for Michigan State football on Aug. 30 for the season-opener against Florida Atlantic, it won't be the first time he has been in Spartan Stadium.
Lynch-Adams has had an adventurous path to East Lansing. He was a sophomore at the time at Rutgers in 2020 when the now infamous multi-turnover disaster started the Mel Tucker era.
Adams has gone through a lot since then, as he ultimately left Rutgers and ended up at UMass, where he was a star in the backfield for the Minutemen in 2023.
The now sixth-year senior, looks to take full advantage of his return to the Big Ten, this time with the Spartans.
Running backs coach Keith Bhonapha spoke with Stephen Brooks from SpartanTailgate about the path Lynch-Adams has gone through to get here.
"I asked him why he left Rutgers, and he said he was immature, and he probably should've stayed," Bhonapha said. "As soon as he said that, I'm like 'This is the kind of guy I want in my room.' A guy that is self-aware, because self-awareness is a quality a lot of people don't have, and he has it."
That immaturity led to his transfer to a much lesser school, but it appears his growth since then has gone a long way and now he's back in the Big Ten where he belongs.
The pairing of Nate Carter and Lynch-Adams looks and sounds great so far, hopefully it pays off for both this season. I certainly expect big things out of both running backs.
Outside of Kenneth Walker III's magical year, we haven't seen a running back in our beloved green and white rush for over 1,000 yards in a season since Jeremy Langford did so in 2014. It's hard to believe it's been that long.
That was the DNA of successful Michigan State football teams, and thus far it appears Jonathan Smith and Co. have done everything to help the backs succeed.
