Michigan State football picks up yet another DB transfer commitment
Jonathan Smith just can't stop winning in the transfer portal. The first-year Michigan State football coach landed two more defensive back commitments on Friday.
LSU cornerback Jeremiah Hughes became the latest MSU commitment on Friday afternoon following a visit to East Lansing that took place on Thursday.
Hughes is just the latest transfer commitment in this recent heater by Smith. Over the past couple of weeks, he's landed Andrew Dennis, Tyler Gillison, Ru'Quan Buckley, Marcellius Pulliam, Jalen Satchell, Lejond Cavazos, Ben Roberts, and Nikai Martinez along with Hughes. That's quite the post-spring haul and it doesn't even count guys like Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams and Ed Woods.
It's been really nice to see the roster coming together like this and it feels like it's just the start for this coaching staff. They've already flipped the roster in a short period of time after losing three dozen players to the portal -- mostly guys who couldn't make the two-deep.
While I don't see Hughes starting next season, I do see him in the two-deep behind Woods and Chance Rucker. I feel like this is the perfect addition because he can learn for a year as a backup and start in 2025. He does have three years of eligibility remaining.
Hughes played in 13 games for LSU last season, primarily on special teams, but had six tackles as a true freshman.
With this move, it appears that Indiana's Kobee Minor is off the board as Corey Robinson of 247Sports reported that it was a transfer credits issue that caused his silent verbal to fall through.
