As someone who likes to dabble in some sports gambling during college football season, one thing I tend to avoid doing is betting on Michigan State football games. It's not that I don't have faith in being able to accurately predict some of their outcomes, I just know that I'm too biased and will probably side with MSU against the spread more than I should.

And the last thing I want to do is lose some money while also watching Michigan State lose the actual game.

However, I did bet on Michigan State's win total this year and probably put too much money on over five wins if I'm being honest. I thought this was a safe investment because there was no way in my mind that MSU would miss a bowl game again.

After just one week however, I'm feeling less confident.

For starters, Michigan State obviously struggled a lot during their Week 1 win over Florida Atlantic. But that isn't the reason I'm feeling more doubtful, I think Jonathan Smith and his staff will figure it out as the season progresses and play a lot better. It's Michigan State's future opponents that have me very concerned.

Looking at MSU's schedule, I still see three guaranteed losses on the schedule, Ohio State, Oregon, and Michigan. Other than those three I thought the other nine were very winnable games. Now while I still think this is true, my confidence is begginning to drop.

Michigan State's next opponent, Maryland, won their week one game 50-7. Then the Spartan's week four opponent, Boston College, went on the road to Florida State and won 28-13. Those two road games are looking a lot more scary now.

Michigan State's four other Big Ten opponents all won their respective games by at least 24 points. So yeah, I'm very nervous I won't be seeing my money again at the end of this season.

We'll learn a lot about where Michigan State stands this Saturday when they travel to Maryland, but if they come away from that game with an ugly loss then we might have to start panicking.
