Michigan State football lands Oregon DT transfer Ben Roberts
Michigan State football simply cannot be stopped on the recruiting trail right now.
It feels like the Spartans are getting a new commitment every single day because, well, they are. Over the weekend, they added Jalen Satchell on the defensive line and then on Wednesday, Michigan State picked up a commitment from yet another solid player in the trenches.
Ben Roberts committed to Michigan State on Wednesday after spending the last two seasons with Oregon. He played 48 snaps with the Ducks and has three years of eligibility remaining.
This officially completes the Derrick Harmon trade. All jokes aside, this is an important addition for the Spartans on the defensive line because Roberts fills a position of need with Harmon and Simeon Barrow transferring out this spring and he should be able to crack the two-deep immediately. The position group was thin before the past couple of weeks, but the additions of Satchell, Roberts, D'Quan Douse, and Ru"Quan Buckley have helped matters.
Roberts had just five tackles over the past two seasons but he was able to retain a redshirt and is coming to Michigan State as a redshirt sophomore. He was a four-star in the 2022 class and was making a strong impression this spring, pushing for a spot on Oregon's two-deep.
However, he decided to hit the transfer portal and look for a fresh start elsewhere.
Michigan State addressed some major needs following spring ball and the outlook for the 2024 season is looking better by the day. And don't be surprised if the defensive backfield adds a transfer in the next day or two as well.
