Michigan State football hosting LSU CB transfer Jeremiah Hughes

Don't ever tell Jonathan Smith you need something because the first-year Michigan State football coach will address it and then some.

Michigan State needed some defensive back help after losing Jaden Mangham to the transfer portal along with some other depth pieces following the worst stretch of pass defense the program had featured in over a decade and Smith went into the portal and made some moves.

First, he landed Ed Woods from Arizona State, beating out Alabama for the talented cornerback. And then he picked up a commitment from Lejond Cavazos from North Carolina -- he started his career as a four-star recruit from IMG Academy and originally played at Ohio State.

On Tuesday, Smith hosted Indiana cornerback transfer -- and honorable mention All-Big Ten vote-getter -- Kobee Minor and less than 24 hours later, he's hosting another transfer defensive back.

According to Chris Hummer of 247Sports, the Spartans are hosting LSU cornerback Jeremiah Hughes who is transferring after his true freshman season with the Tigers in which he appeared in 13 games and recorded six tackles.

It feels like this could be a great fit for him as Michigan State needs plenty of cornerback help and it's likely that Dillon Tatum will be moving back to safety with the Mangham departure.

Plus, Hughes played in 13 games as a true freshman for one of the best teams in the SEC and he has three years of eligibility remaining. He's already faced some of college football's best competition and he's only going to get better moving forward.

Let's hope the staff can seal the deal on either Hughes or Minor -- or both.
